Professional Development Courses

We offer professional development courses that provide highly effective, easy-to-implement strategies to boost the performance of your students. These sessions are conducted online, from 7-8:30am (depending on length) for the time zone GMT +10. Please contact us if you would like to attend a session.

PD sessions can be arranged (tailored time/topic) if you are interested in a PD session for your math faculty or for alternate time zones.

Providing Meaningful Feedback

Dates: 29th Feb 2024 (7-8:30am). Online delivery.

Suitable for all maths teachers looking to give high quality, student specific feedback on exams.

Video overviewing PD will be uploaded before 19th Jan.

Developing Mathematical Fluency in the Classroom

Dates: 27th Feb 2024 (7:30-8:30am). Online delivery.

Suitable for all maths teachers looking to target improvement in student's mathematical fluency. 

This PD focuses on the teaching of procedural fluency. Specifically:

1. Why it is important (in many cases) to teach procedural fluency separately to conceptual understanding for a given topic.

2. How to teach specifically for mathematical fluency

3. Motivating students who already understand (but are not fluent with) a topic

4. Classroom resources to use for developing procedural fluency   

The 15 Minute Lesson

Dates: 5th March 2024 (7:30-8:30am). Online delivery.

Suitable for early career mathematics teachers.

This PD overviews how to make simple, effective, and repeatable math lesson plans. We look at the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) needed to nail the first 15 minutes of a lesson and ways that they can be achieved. We also look at how we can extend this planning as a template for the remainder of the lesson. Specific discussion points include:

 

1. Bringing students into the classroom

2. Keeping students on task

3. Differentiation

Classroom resources that align with the above points are also provided.

Topic Masterclass

1 hour session, online delivery. 

Suitable for colleagues in a department looking to take a deep dive into the teaching of particular topics (minimum of 2 participants per session).

This PD provides a structural breakdown of any topic from the "Master Class" series. Overviewing the sequencing of topics, what the "key pieces of understanding" students need to know to progress in the topic / other topics. Discussions around pedagogical approaches to teaching specific components of the topic.
